Eligibility
Local study conflicts
Inclusion Criteria:
- 18 years or older
- Confirmed diagnosis of cirrhosis defined by the presence of characteristic clinical, radiological, or histological criteria
- Non-elective admission to hospital/critical care unit with acute decompensation (for example variceal bleeding, ascites, hepatic encephalopathy)

Exclusion Criteria:
- < 18 years old,Unable to read/understand English
- Elective admission eg for post-operative care/transplant workup
- Post liver transplantation
If the patient is eligible:
- Gain verbal agreement in principle before proceeding. Explain that they may be able to enter a research study seeking to improve the care of patients with liver disease:
- Taking part in research is likely to improve the quality of their care
- Risks are carefully controlled - research is safe
- Explain the uncertainty that exists with respect to treatment of their condition
- If they change their mind they can withdraw their participation at any point

- Send the patient's MRN and Initials via whatsapp (details on how to join the group are available in the department), and the research team will see patient next working day.
